ANYBODY HEADING TO SQUAMISH SOON?

Random request. My friend paddled my kayak on a small creek near Squamish and lost it. Some local found it and called me. So the boat is in Squamish at the Fire Hall. If someone is heading up there and would be willing to haul the boat back down, there would be copious amounts of beer or other party favors in it for the kind transporter. The boat just needs to get to Seattle, a buddy of mine could pick it up there. I live in the Gorge and won't be able to get up that far N for awhile. Please let me know if this sounds feasible. It would be super easy I promise.

thanks!!!

Fern, PM sent. If Fern can't pick it up, the 25th with the pickup would work perfectly. It will fit either on the truck or in the back. Just needs some straps to make sure it doesn't fly off/out. There are safety points on the kayak to tie to so it won't budge. If Fern doesn't email/call tonight, I'll call you this weekend and get something worked out.

Curiosty, that's a good point. He put onto a small creek that was pretty much like a steep long staircase with not eddies and lots of rocks. Why I let him borrow my boat is now beyond me. Anyhow, he flipped, swam after getting beat by rocks, held onto the boat but it was sweeping him downstream and he was getting beat. He let go of the boat and went for shore. The boat kept going downstream. End of story until the BC locals spotted it and drug it out of the creek and saw a post on a local forum.

I know, I talked with them. Just to clarify, this wasn't me that paddled the boat. I wouldn't have left it. My buddy got beat down and shaken up and didn't know where the boat was. So as it was getting darker we didn't search the river banks for it, thinking it would likely be fruitless anyhow. I talked with Doug I think his name was, and oddly enough he said that even had I called in to say the boat was abandoned for the time being, but nobody was harmed, they would have had to fly anyhow just as a protocol type of thing. Not sure why. Anyway, sounds like I might be able to get it back here in a couple of weeks. I'm sure it's damaged, I just hope it's repairable.

Yep, that's the one. Doug and Tetley were talking about it the other day. I said they had to fly the river: what I should have said is they got to fly the river. Tetley in particular quite enjoys flying around in helicopters, especially when they're pretty sure they won't be finding a body.

I suspect they have to fly the river (or get to, rather) even when a boat has been reported abandoned, just in case a boat they've come across is not the one that was reported abandoned. On any given weekend around here there could be a couple of boats that have been "strategically abandoned", and maybe one or two where the occupant is in genuine trouble further downstream. And SAR would have no way of being 100% certain which they were dealing with, so they search downstream no matter what.
