Geek_the_Greek Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 After being in the market for a new helmet for over a year, I finally got Trango's new CPU. I love it! It is a bit heavier than some, but a nice compromise between weight and function. It is adjusted by means of a strap and buckle, and feels solid on my head. Most importantly, it doesn't look too idiotic. As you all (should) know, weight is by no means the only factor to consider, but it is a nice quantitative measure: Petzl Meteor III: 235 g Petzl Elios: 315 g Trango CPU: 410 g Edelrid Ultralight: 410 g Camp Rock Star: 418 g Petzl Ecrin Roc: 485 g Quote
spotly Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 (edited) I got tired of my old heavy, sweaty helmet this year too and opted to go with something lighter and with more ventilation. I opted for the Meteor III. As advertised, it is so light and so well ventilated that even on hot days, I hardly notice it's on. Can't speak to it's protective value yet. As far as the dork factor, it's there but not sure I can blame that on the helmet as much as heredity. Edited August 31, 2006 by spotly Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I just bought a meteor III too. Saves half a pound over my old helmet (ecrin rock). Used it once so far and it was nice. Quote
RogerJ Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Does the Meteor III have headlamp holders? I could not really tell from the pictures. Sounds like a nice helmet. -r Quote
iain Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I have the meteor III as well. You look like a total tool in it or some kind of stormtrooper. Or your head is being attacked by a giant mollusk. Other than that it seems to work. It does have headlamp holders, and NOLSe-certified extreme vertical drytooling vizion ice visor mount points. Quote
G-spotter Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Is the Meteor 3 the one that NecroChoadaBoy can tear in half with his bare hands? Cause with those vent slots it looks pre-perforated like a roll of stamps. I'm not surprised it is so easy to pull apart. Quote
Blake Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I think it was the BD half-dome that got torn apart. Quote
