As of Sunday the road was only open to Morrison Creek. I'm hoping the road will be open for at least part of the way to Cold Springs this weekend, but from how much snow I saw there on Sunday, I'd only expect a few hundred extra vertical feet.

Skied the chutes today. They are as good as they have ever been right now. Not too icy, not to slushy.

Road remains drifted in a few spots just past Morrison Camp, but these are going fast and I bet by this weekend a 4wd could get to cold springs. By Monday, I bet the road is completely clear. Still plenty of snow up there. We skied the chutes then dropped directly into the Morrison Creek drainage to our vehicle. Go get it because it ain't gonna last long.

We were up there last Sunday as well. The few snow berms on the road just past Morrison Creek CG should be easily passable with a good 4WD and after that there is a lot of bare road before you get to more consistent snow. The route is all snow from the trailhead to the summit except for a few spots at the lunch counter that were melting out. The snow was very firm in the morning for us (some in the group used crampons) but the freezing levels are going way up this weekend (over 14K), even at night so it may be pretty soft. The skiing in the chutes last weekend was just plain amazing. Hard to beat 4K of corn. Before we left Morrison Creek, we took a GPS waypoint for the parking lot. When we got down to the bottom of the chutes, instead of traversing around to the trailhead and doing 3 miles of road slog back to Morrison Creek, we just beat a trail through the woods to Morrison Creek CG following the GPS lead to the waypoint we took that morning. Worked like a charm.

Thanks for the beta, snowboarded the chutes Saturday. Nice and smooth! Drove to 5 min hike of south climb trailhead. Counted 82 cars on the drive out at 4 PM....

We were just up there from Friday through Saturday and it was blazing! We had to hike an extra two miles in and out on the road, but by Saturday, people had already busted their way up to Cold Springs. The snow was great up high at 11, but sticky below. I think a summit at 10 would have been ideal.
