Try Sports Junkies, just up the street from Mec. They are on the corner at the East end of the block. Good deals on 2nd hand stuff. All the climbing kit is upstairs.

MEC is "core". And big. Law of ecology. It outpredates the little guys. eExtreme Mtn Gear tried to be core in the 90s and it didn't work out. That was good for me cause I bought most of my first rack during the two closeout sales.

funny how many outdoor stores are now on the broadway corridor near mec (18, incl. 3 bike shops, at last count)--admittedly few have technical climbing gear but i think business begats business.
