DonkeyBoy Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Which mountain shop in Vancouver do you think is best? New the to the area and need to replace some worn out gear. Don't have time to 'power shop.' Thanks, Michael Quote
Bogen Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Mountain Equipment Coop on Broadway at Manitoba Quote
BackCountryPunk Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Try Sports Junkies, just up the street from Mec. They are on the corner at the East end of the block. Good deals on 2nd hand stuff. All the climbing kit is upstairs. Quote
DonkeyBoy Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 Thanks for everyones' responses. Surprised there aren't more "core" shops in town!? Quote
G-spotter Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 MEC is "core". And big. Law of ecology. It outpredates the little guys. eExtreme Mtn Gear tried to be core in the 90s and it didn't work out. That was good for me cause I bought most of my first rack during the two closeout sales. Quote
jordop Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 WTF is "outpredate" Get off your Phd cloud mofo hyperacademic overarticulation Quote
G-spotter Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mtn Shops are predators feeding on the customers, and MEC is the big tyrannosaurus rex that eats all the customers and leaves nothing for the wolf sized small mtn shops. To be a successful predator you've got to hunt another niche (like Squamish) to find enough food. Quote
jordop Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Ahh, thought you were meaning pre-date in a chronological sense. Stupid language Quote
G-spotter Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I wish my Google image skills were up to finding an illustration of tyrannosaurus rex eating unicorns. Quote
