Gary_Yngve Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I heard something about how the US put up unfair tariffs on Canadian lumber, scored about five billion, and won't give it back, despite three NAFTA rulings in favor of Canada. What do yall think? Quote
olyclimber Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 well obviously Canadia is full of evil doers and WMDs and we must invade for thier natural resources, errr...to install democracy there. Quote
olyclimber Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 btw, I fully support drilling for oil in the Canadia National Wildlife Refuge. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 I thought our plan is to invade if Canada doesn't extradite Marc Emery. Quote
olyclimber Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 He is obviously the mastermind behind this waste of valuable resources. Quote
foraker Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Exxon hasn't paid out it's billions to Alaska yet either. Been fighting it for 20 years. I was surprised to see Reichert weigh in on it. WHo do you think will pay out first? (um, neither?) Quote
catbirdseat Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Gary you have to understand that the US decided to give up 7 billion dollars in Gulf of Mexico oil lease royalties to the oil companies. The government needed some way to make up the lost revenue. Quote
stinkyclimber Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Canadians love to get riled up about this and wring hands endlessly about how unjust and one-sided NAFTA is. Of course, the first step would be to stop subsidizing our lumber producers. It wouldn't change anything (the US lumber lobby is brilliant, and protectionism is a time honoured vote-winning pasttime in rural areas), but at least the hand wringing would be more honest. However, govt subsidies of the BC forest sector keep Dru spraying all year long, so... Eliminate those unfair tariffs and SAVE DRU'S SPRAY. There's a cause to rally around... Quote
