spineguy Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 OK so the slings on my cams are starting to look a little ratty...any suggestions on re-slinging them: I've considered putting on fresh webbing with a water knot, and girth-hitching new sewn runners. I don't really want to send them back to the manufacturer(s) because there are three different brands. Quote
whirlwind Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 i think there is a couple of people here that can sew em cordelet is an option as well with fishermens knot Quote
hemp22 Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 you can send them all to Yates to be reslung. Yates will do them regardless of manufacturer. I've heard they're good about doing things however you want too - different colors, lengths, etc. check out the following photo (found on RC.com) of cams slung w/ 18" slings so they can be extended or carried tripled like a runner. Chad_A Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Climb Max here in Portland did a good job with a few of mine. Quote
larrythellama Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 holy shit that 18" crap would suck and be bulky. some people just to tech for their own good. just like the people who turn their SHOULDER lengths into draws. so dumb. Quote
whirlwind Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 shoulder lengths into draws is a good idea, makes em easier to carry and makes for faster acess Quote
larrythellama Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 how is faster if you have to un-clip it and then un-clip it to seperate it into a shoulder length? isn't that quickdraws are for? Quote
ketch Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 I recently had a bunch of cams redone by Yates. They do good work and are quick on the turn around. Many of them I had redone in a double sling similar to what Dmm uses. They won't do this on small single stem units. So the camalots stay single but the Aliens are now double. Only had one chance to climb since they came back, so far it was a good move. Quote
scrambled_legs Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Turning shoulder lengths into draws is a great idea. No that's not what quickdraws are for... you can't expand a quick draw to stop the drag over a roof, or make a wandering route's protection safe. If you want a regular draw, use it like a regular draw. If you want a runner then open the gate and let two loops fall out before clipping the rope and you have a runner. Not sure how that's any slower than taking a sling off your shoulder where it's caught your rack, jacket, pack etc. I know many people that only climb with this set-up and don't use any draws. Quote

tomtom Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Yes, but how do you turn a draw into a shoulder length? Â Or do you carry twice as many as necessary? Quote

Well you proved you can type the same words over and over but other than that your brilliance is lost on me. Do you study a route topo and decide how many long and short draws you need. What about a MP with a straight crack followed by a wandering face climb? Do you carry 14 short and 14 long draws??? Do you have 3 foot long draws??? Quote
