eiger2climb Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 i just bought a gregory palisade and it seems to me i have way too much extra strap hanging off my pack(compression straps)my question,is, is this going to be a problem or should i trim the excess? i am new to climbing and don't have all my gear yet,so i am not sure how it will all pan out loaded down. i appreciate any advice Quote
genepires Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 the straps are long so that you can stuff things underneath. The largest thing I can think of under the compression straps are foam pads and maybe ski boots. So, put those under the straps and see if there is extra strapping. If so, then you could cut the straps down to a reasonable level. Leave 6 inches of extra webbing beyond the buckle. those extra straps will fly around in the wind and they will hit you in the face many many times. and it hurts. lots. To tame the extra, you could roll them up and tape the roll so it won't unravel. Quote
crackers Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 or use a rubber band to control rolled up extra strappage... Quote
RogerJ Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 I use old bike tubes. I cut about 1 - 2 inch pieces and feed the webbing part of the strap through. This keeps things tidy and beats the hell out of chucking old tubes into the trash. -r Quote
kioti Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 Gregory is pretty notorious for having long straps. Trim them down. The reason they are so long is because they have only one length available when putting the packs together. Take a look at the side straps, the hood straps, and the sleeping pad straps. They'll all be the same length. Quote
