Im in the market for some Mountaineering boots, Im not sure whether to go plastic or not, I want something that I could be able to do Rainier in the winter and maybe even take them to Denali or other high peaks. I have been looking at Koflach, can you go with to warm of a boot? I also dont want to be to overkill. Any thoughts?

It looked like Feathered Friends was going to have Nuptse's on sale ($100 off) on March 10. At least, that's the way I interpreted the tag beneath the boot on display.

You won't have to worry about your boots being too warm for Denali. Most folks wear plastics AND overboots or supergaiters on Denali. Plastics are the no brainer, multi-day winter boot.

Thermoform/moldable liners are warmer than anything else for liners. I think Scarpa Alphas now come std with them, don't know about the Koflach line. you can always add them for $100 or so. Good luck

Koflach arctis has been a good boot for me on denali. (with super gaiters below 14K and overboots above 14k) Like most warm liners, they can only take a limited number of expeditions. So using them for general beating around in warmer times is not recomended, as well as too warm. Arctis don't have the thermoform/intuition type liners, last I looked.

But you mention higher peaks than denali. For something higher, you should really look at boots like millet (everest or something like that). Scarpa and la sportiva have similar models. They are pricey they are much wamer and ends up only costing $80/toe. Plus in the grand scheme of cost for these peaks, it is trivial.
