gyselinck Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I haven't been climbing ice for a long time, so I am still learning how all this stuff works. I noticed a lot of my screws are getting little divits in the threads from banging around. I can't immagine it being good for them. But is it just consdered normal wear?, does it effect em much in the long run?, should I be more carefull or is it unavoidable? Thanks. Quote
David Trippett Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 get an old bicycle tube or tubes from the bike shop for free....one of the thin road bike ones that will fit snug on a screw(700 x 20)....cut lengths to fit over your screws ....this will keep the threads protected and you won't care when you lose them. ken4ord Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Just use the screw condoms and caps that came with screws in the first place. Make sure not to store the screws with caps and condoms when they are still wet or else they will rust. Quote
John Frieh Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Overpriced but easy to make yourself: I thought this was a V day thread Quote
dbb Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Craig- Â I'd get one of these: Â they are cheap (~$10) and you can fit about 10-11 screws in it if you use the sleeves and then just roll a few in the middle. No need to carry caps or condoms when ice cragging again! Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I have one of those things Dave is talking about. Mine is made by ACE and holds 12 screws + it has a small pocket for other stuff. Way more convenient than keeping track of plastic covers IMO. Quote
jmace Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I have the Black Diamond one as well, and it holds 12 screws, just fine. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I made a personal promise never to buy anything with the words "pan pipes" or "zamfir" in the title. Quote
