plexus Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Making the switch from downhill to AT setup. Here's my question, I'm 5'10, 165-170 range. What's the optimal length? Gonna use it more for touring than resort skiing. They're Tua 180cm 90-65-80 base. Too long? Thanks guys!! Quote
iain Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 That's not too long. Those are pretty skinny by today's standards and Tuas get tossed around in the cascade crud here pretty good so a little extra length might do you some good. Quote
DirtyHarry Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 In general, I'd rather have longer skis in the backcountry, where you're usually skiing open bowls and the like, than at a resort. Quote
plexus Posted January 27, 2006 Author Posted January 27, 2006 Actually it'll be Coloradoan pow-pow I'll be tumbling down. I'm a Cascadian ex-pat now. Quote
iain Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 Your Tuas will be right at home. I think that's what they were really designed for in the first place. Great skis, but not exactly burly crud eaters (except for the ones they were producing right when they went belly-up). Quote
plexus Posted February 3, 2006 Author Posted February 3, 2006 Thanks for the help guys. Got the Tuas with Silvretta 404s. They'll do for the remainder of this season but I see myself upgrading bindings next year. Got The 404s because I wanted them to be compatable with my mountaineering boots. However... Decided against breaking my ankle and picked up a pair of Lowa Structuras. They seem a little clunkier than what I was expecting but it seems the trend with tele and randonee gear is to mimic downhill more and more. Got some skins and will test the setup on Sunday at Boreas Pass if avy conditions allow me to. Quote

plexus Posted February 22, 2006 Author Posted February 22, 2006 Was that loveliness taken on the Whitehorse climb? And is that a splitboard? Quote
