Wired_Knut Posted August 14, 2001 Posted August 14, 2001 Anyone been up there latley? Wondering if there is any water on the route. We are considering climbing it complete. Quote
Lambone Posted August 14, 2001 Posted August 14, 2001 Did the upper half three weeks ago. Definitaly no water on the route. Some ice if you bypass the gendarme. Have fun! Quote
Charlie Posted August 14, 2001 Posted August 14, 2001 Is there still a fixed #4 on the offwidth pitch of the gendarme? Quote
Alasdair Posted August 14, 2001 Posted August 14, 2001 Hey,Captain Was that you on the Cascadian about 10:30 on Sunday that almost got wiped out by the huge boulder? Quote
Chepe Posted August 14, 2001 Posted August 14, 2001 Boulder? I dunno what you be talkin about. I was the first group to summit that morning at about 9 am. I think by that time we were done with the descent... Were you one of the 2 guys moving up to the Gendarme at about 7 am? [This message has been edited by Chepe (edited 08-14-2001).] Quote
Alasdair Posted August 15, 2001 Posted August 15, 2001 No. I was on the N. Ridge of Sherpa. I heard some big rock fall on Stuart and looked over to see a boulder at least as big as a car barreling down Cascadian toward two climbers. They ran like hell and the boulder missed them by what looked like a few feet from where I was. It was the closest I have come to seeing someone get taken out in the mountiains. The two climbers were about 500-800ft. below the summit on cascadian and it happend between 10:00 and 10:15. Quote
Chepe Posted August 15, 2001 Posted August 15, 2001 Amazing I did not hear it! Wow sounds like an uber epic ! Amazingly enough after a longer alpine climb like that we did not have even any minor epic on our journey. Thanks to god! Quote
