joel20 Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Is there anyone who's been there that can help me? I'm planning a trip there around June and would like to know about 2 things. Where can I snowboard and go ice climbing, preferably in close proximity to one another? Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Queenstown on South Island Mt Ruapehu on North Island Quote
chris Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 There's also some good ice climbing outside of Wanaka (just north of Queenstown), and great riding at Treble Cone. The New Zealand Alpine Club prints the best guide books, and they have a store in Christchurch. Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 ...Wanaka is south of Queenstown, but...yeah. Quote
goatboy Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 But....um.....not to split hairs, but actually, Wanaka IS North of Queenstown. Perhaps being in the Southern Hemisphere makes those cardinal directions a bit confusing? Quote
Dru Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 Well shit, they must have moved it! If they have a snow farm, does that mean you can get a WWOOF job as an organic snow farmer? Quote

In June I wouldn't bank on being able to do either - most of the ski fields don't open until July, and it's early ice season for a very temperate land. If you want to ski/climb wait until August. Best o'luck all the same. Quote
