Pandora Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 I climbed the Central Success Couloir on the 4th of July this year and thought it was a fun route. The slopes were no steeper than 45 degrees, but fairly icy. I've heard it is a great ski in the right conditions, though. Quote
JBC Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 I have also done the Middle Finger of Success. It should be very skiable in the spring. It does get icy & rocky later in the year. Rockfall can be a real problem if it warm. (The nearest I have come to getting creamed in the mountains was in the Middle Finger!) There can also be a pretty good crevasse at the bottom. I am sure that the right hand would be skiable as well. Jim Quote

knelson Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Kind of a distant view, and at the wrong time of year for you, but it might be worth something for you... You can get the bigger file here: http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/509/6055DSC01582.JPG Picture was taken early August 2003 from the little knob just north of Pyramid Peak (~6600'). -kurt Quote
Duchess Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Wow. Now that is one good-looking mountain! Quote
JoshK Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 So is the obvious broad rocky ugly shoulder the success cleaver itself? I have had some interest in the cleaver for a while due to its looong ridge up to the summit and lack of glacier travel. Quote
Pandora Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Josh, yep that's it. The shot looks directly up Success Cleaver. I highly recommend going when it's snow-covered, unless of course you enjoy scrogging through kitty litter. Here are a couple of photos I took during a climb of Central Success Couloir on the 4th of July 2005. Quote
