flatnose Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Was thinking of taking a run up reid hw or leuthold on Fri. night and was wondering if anyone has climbed it or taken a look at the shape its in this past week? Also does anyone think it would be easier to descend the old mazama route or down the w. crater rim before it gets warm in the morning or are they in worse condition than the pearly gates? Quote
John Frieh Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Check overnight freezing level before going. If temperature inversion contiues through w/end it is likely not a good decision to climb at all (though that is for you to decide). FYI: it was warmer on hood last night in town. Quote
flatnose Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 I was planning on playing it by ear on Friday and assessing snow conditions once I got up there. It's not looking good but I'm always trying to be optimistic. What does the w. crater and mazama chute look like right now? Quote
Winter Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 Got reports from last night of very strange and bad climbing conditions on the south side. Quote
ivan Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 yeah, based on what i saw this morning, i'd imagine all of the headwalls on the mtn would be bad places to be for the next few days - lots of huge chunks pouring down. descending off the summit via the old chute or w crater rim did appear a better option currently, though admitedly i didn't see any of the area by daylight figures that, when the rain/snow stops, it get too damn warm to enjoy the mtn! ivan Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 i love this fucking guy! when did he arrive on the scene? Quote
