fenderfour Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I've been drytooling around my shed for a while now, but it's not taking the wear so well. I've decided to make a dedicated structure. My plan involves setting a series of 2x4's or 4x4's across two trees in my back yard and using that as a frame for other stuff. The trees are about 20' apart, both have sturdy branches about 6' off the ground. I was going to start with just the frame and use it for traverses, eventually adding other vertical boards with hunks of 2x4's for holds. Has anyone else made a dry-tooling "wall"? Quote
John Frieh Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 PM me your email and I can send pics I would discourage you from using those trees unless them dying is no big deal to you. Both Gadd and Issac have excellent discussions on building a drytool woodie in there mixed books (esp. Isaac); if you don't own them (and have no interest in buying them) I can photocopy and mail them to you. If you are really serious about drytooling I would recommend you buy them... excellent info in each. There is also a thread some where around here discussing drytool holds... I looked but couldn't find it... perhaps some else can sniff it out. Quote
fenderfour Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 I don't plan to nail into the trees. I was going to lash the boards on. No climbing on the trees either. I will check out the books thanks Quote
John Frieh Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Nailing or not the woodie will weigh a lot and likely rub the bark off where it contact the tree... if you do lash the frame on make sure you pad the bark from the board with a towel of something or plan on a lot of sap. Quote
Alex Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I cut chunks of 2x4, mitre'd them on one side, drilled a 3/8th inch hole in the center, and bolted them to my climbing wall in my garage with 3/8 bolts and washers. Works well. Cheap. Quote
