BillA Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 So, I have a pair of Silvretta 404's mounted on some heavy ass piece of crap 190's. Since I can't really ski worth shit in mountaineering boots, I want a light ski that's good for going up that I can strap on my pack for going down. How short is too short? Any recommendations? The cheaper the better... Quote
JoshK Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I'm confused...why would you skin UP but pack your skis for the way DOWN?? Quote
BillA Posted September 14, 2005 Author Posted September 14, 2005 I just want them for approaches pretty much. Quote
PaulB Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 How short is too short? Any recommendations? The cheaper the better... I've got 404s mounted on an old pair of 160cm Atomics (Tourcaps or Tourlights or some such name) that I bought used for $50 including skins. They've been fine for slogging up and cruising down snow covered logging roads, but I wouldn't try to do anything more advanced than a snowplow turn with them while wearing climbing boots. Quote
Figger_Eight Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 If yer not gonna ski them down...why don't you just use snowshoes? Quote
BillA Posted September 14, 2005 Author Posted September 14, 2005 I HATE snowshoes. It would also be nice to be able to cruise down mellow stuff as PaulB mentions. Quote
featheredfriends Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 We have some Atomic MX-20's kicking at the shop that we're trying to get rid of. They're the Rando racing model - 1200 grams light and only come in 160 cm size. We need the space so you can get 'em cheap. - Eddie Quote
