Washington Post text:

A 32-year-old woman admitted in court yesterday to killing her boyfriend by pounding his head with a cast-iron skillet after dousing him with condiments.

Dominique Jackson said she was angry that her boyfriend sold her computer for drug money. She pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court to voluntary manslaughter.

Jackson told police that she and boyfriend Adolphus Jackson began fighting early Oct. 17 after a card game in the apartment they shared in the 2400 block of 17th Street NW. Initially, she said, she beat him unconscious with her fists.

But when he came to, she attacked him again, pouring black pepper and hot sauce on him, along with bleach and shaving cream, prosecutors said. She then sprayed insect spray in his face and placed a hot iron on his lower stomach, they said.

Then she began striking the 44-year-old victim in the head with the skillet, delivering the blows that ultimately killed him, Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas A. DiBiase told the court yesterday.

But Jackson did not die right away.

As he lay on his bed, his girlfriend tried to cover her tracks, DiBiase said. She discarded the iron, the bleach bottle and the hot sauce bottle and attempted to clean the skillet, DiBiase said. She then the left the apartment for about 10 hours.

When she returned about 7:15 p.m., her boyfriend was still alive, and she called 911, DiBiase told the court. The injured man was taken to Washington Hospital Center, where he died the next day.

Brought in for questioning, Jackson gave a detailed, videotaped statement recounting the fatal attack, and she was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Jackson, who is also known as Kia Kenard, faces a likely prison term of 9 1/2 to 17 years when she is sentenced Oct. 14 by Judge Judith E. Retchin
