MountainMan Posted September 7, 2001 Posted September 7, 2001 I'll be taking a trip to Buck Mountain to climb the Southeast route. Does anyone have any information that might be useful for me (i.e. condition of King's Glacier in late season)? The approach is from Trinity via the Buck Creek Trail. Any input is appreciated. Quote
Christopher Posted September 7, 2001 Posted September 7, 2001 MountianMan...I have sneaking suspicision you your recently took a few shots at a little black bear near Park Creek Pass....is this you young T. Sawyer??? When are you going on this adventure into wilds???? Quote
MountainMan Posted September 10, 2001 Author Posted September 10, 2001 Nope, not me. The adventure is on hold until I speak with someone who has been up there and who has found a nice route. Climbed Fernow in a day this weekend car to car instead of risking a non-summit at Buck. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 10, 2001 Posted September 10, 2001 Dumb question but where is Buck Mtn? Quote
MountainMan Posted September 10, 2001 Author Posted September 10, 2001 Buck Mountain ... located by Glacier Peak, Fortress, Dome, Chiwawa, Fernow, 7FJ, and Maude. Has anyone on this site climbed Buck Mountain??? Quote
MountainMan Posted September 12, 2001 Author Posted September 12, 2001 BACK TO TOP .... HAVE ANY CASCADE CLIMBERS CLIMBED OR TALKED TO SOMEONE WHO HAS CLIMBED BUCK MOUNTAIN. ISN'T ANYONE ELSE GOING AFTER THE TOP 100? Sorry for yelling. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 I checked this peak out in the Beckey Book. Go buy it and that is your beta. I think the thing is maximum class 2 or 3. [This message has been edited by Cpt.Caveman (edited 09-12-2001).] Quote
MountainMan Posted September 12, 2001 Author Posted September 12, 2001 I've got the Beckey book and I require more info than is offered in the book. If you look at the route description for the Southeast approach in the old Beckey book and the one in the new Beckey book you too will realize that they are different. The route description in the new Beckey book calls for 100 ft. of class 4 .. the old one does not. I am bringing a novice climber up to Buck Mountain with me who is not experienced at climbing class 4 and 5. I also do not want to carry rope all the way up there if I don't need it. You seem to believe that only information on class 5 routes is worthy of being in this forum. If that's the case, you need to go re-read the forum heading. So does anyone else besides "captain dickhead" have any pertinent information on the Southeast route up Buck Mountain? Thanks in advance for any serious help. Cpt.Caveman Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 Heheh Captain Dickhead I kinda like that name. I just couldnt stand your cap letters to be honest Have fun. [This message has been edited by Cpt.Caveman (edited 09-12-2001).] Quote
Dru Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 If you are only bringing the rope for the novice try taking 100 feet of 6mm cord instead. GOD FORBID that a guidebook not tell you everything about a climb including which hand to use for which hold and what brand of GoreTex to wear. Wonder how people ever manage to do First Ascents lacking this valuable knowledge. Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 Watch out Dru this is "Mountain Man" you are talking to. Not Caveman Quote
Dru Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 You mean Dickhead? I wonder if "MountainMan" is the same one that used to own the fish and chip stand in Brittania Beach but sold out to Mountain Woman? she was to ocheap to get a new sign so she just pasted a tiny little "wo" in so it says MOUNTAIN woMAN Fish & Chips now Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 As long as they have vinegar for the fries I dont care Quote
Dru Posted September 12, 2001 Posted September 12, 2001 Yeah. How come you can't get vinegar at most places in the States? Quote
