Mt Slesse East Side Trailhead Change

Based on last winters washouts in Nesakwatch Creek, the start of the trail to Slesse's east side has changed.

 

You need 4x4 to reach the existing parking area, due to some debris chutes on the road. With 2wd, it will be a 4km hike from the point you have to stop at.

 

From the old spur where the Slesse east side trail used to start, follow signs marked "Slesse trail" with arrows. These lead up the main Nesakwatch Creek road (currently undriveable even with 4x4 past the parking area) as if you were heading to Rexford, then drop down steeply to Nesakwatch Creek on a new trail and cross on I'm not sure what exactly b/c I didn't go down there to look, I assume some fallen logs or a new bridge. This will lengthen the approach to Slesse by 15 minutes or so.

Just to add, the Nesakwatch road is driveable past the parking area with h/c 4X4, but doesn't really help to drive farther.

Park at the old trailhead/spur road. Right now there is only one sign, at the parking. Go up Nesakwatch road for approx. 10 min. and look for the ORANGE tape on the right. There is a ton of tape on every tree conceivable, but the trail is the only one with ORANGE tape.

After that it is very easy to follow the new trail to where is connects with the standard Slesse east side trail.

The Nesakwatch Creek is crossed on a perfect log bridge.

Not knowing any better, we took the old beta and approached up the old trail to its junction with the new trail. Wading the Neskwatch Creek was enjoyable on the hot day! Both approaches work fine, so don't sweat the decision making too much when on the approach.

the new trail is now also marked with a cairn on the side of the road as well as the orange tape. its obvious thats the way to go.
