The recent discussions about randonnée rallys prompted me to call Jeremy @ the Mountain Shop to confirm rumors about a rally on Mt Hood. Jeremy told me that he and several others are working with the ski patrol director at Mt Hood Meadows to put on a rally April 9th. It sounds definite that the event will happen and they are printing posters this week. There would likely be two divisions, a race and a recreation division akin to the life-link series. The courses have not yet been determined and they're considering several options, the most interesting of which--and this is completely preliminary--would be skinning to the top of Vista, descending into White River canyon (which is out of MHM's permit area), climbing back to MHM's permit area, descending into Heather canyon, bootpacking back out and presumably descending to the finish at MHM's main base area. This would be a very exciting course, and even if this exact course isn't able to be pulled off, I'm sure based on those who are putting it on it'll be an excellent event.

I'll bump this post when I get more details and when a registration form becomes available. It's important this event gets a good attendance so it'll continue to be held and we grow the sport. You don't need to be fast (I'm not) nor on rando gear to participate and have a good time.

I usually buy almost all my gear online but with Mountain Shop putting on this event I'm going to start shopping there more.

PS: Can one of the moderators make this a sticky. Thanks!
