rockermike Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 Are there any routes on Rainier that are suitable for solo climbers? ie. no or minimal cravases on route? Quote
chris Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 There are significant crevasses to cross from Point Success to Columbia Crest. Quote
OlympicMtnBoy Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 DC route gets soloed, with the trough to follow and the hordes of climbers the risk is a little lower. Of course check the NPS website on getting a solo permit, that's a different thing. Quote
Alex_Mineev Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 You do not have to summit on Columbia Crest to call the climb complete, any of the three summits would do. Quote
chris Posted January 2, 2005 Posted January 2, 2005 You're right, I agree that you could say you've climbed the route (but not the mountain). But the easiest and fastest way down would be to reach the east crater and descend the DC. If this is a summer ascent, you can often simply follow the DC climbers' boot pack in the dark. Success Cleaver is one of the longest climbs on the mountain, and I wouldn't want to downclimb it! Quote
Alex_Mineev Posted January 3, 2005 Posted January 3, 2005 You wouldn't want to downclimb it because it's long or there is another reason? Just curious Quote
chris Posted January 5, 2005 Posted January 5, 2005 Cause its lllllllllllllooooonnnnnnngggggggg. Quote
