KaskadskyjKozak Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 What are some good places in North Seattle/Everett or the East Side to pick up used skis and boots for kids? Any recommendations on brands/models would be nice as well. I'm looking for gear for a 7 year old. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted December 20, 2004 Posted December 20, 2004 sturtevant's has a nearby "bargain" store - ski mart (425-637-8958) at 830 106th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. the sales people there should be able to help you choose a good setup. they have a ton of kid's stuff. Quote
Billygoat Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Most Play It Again Sports have lots of used kid's gear at good prices. ReSport in Bellingham (360-733-3133) has a lot of low priced used kid's gear. I was just there yesterday.  I have a real good kid's helmet for sale.See Here  How old is your kid?  Quote

enem Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 what i've done with my daugher is to lease her equipment every winter. that way she gets really good gear - which is important as she learns to ski, as it's easier and less frustrating with good gear - and i don't have to spend big money on buying the gear and have to give it away after one year because she's grown. gotten her stuff at seattle ski shop on aurora, in n seattle. my two cents. Â I've looked into this option at one shop (Pilchuck). As I recall it was about $200 or $250 to lease skis and boots for a year. Is that really less expensive than it would be to buy used gear of a comparable quality? Â On the gear lifespan point, I do have younger ones who could inherit the gear as my oldest grows out of it... Quote

Is that really less expensive than it would be to buy used gear of a comparable quality? Â I just double-checked the price at Pilchuck - $159 to lease for a season and $99 to buy out at the end. Renting for the season (not leasing) is $110. There are some ski packages at other stores on line for kids for $219 for new stuff. There's gotta' be less expensive options... Quote
enem Posted December 23, 2004 Posted December 23, 2004 i paid $139 for the season. if you have younger ones, it might make sense to buy instead. a friend of mine gets her kids gear at ski swaps, but they happen in fall, so maybe something to look into for next year...also keep an eye on craigslist, stuff can pop up, for example http://seattle.craigslist.org/spo/53200079.html Quote
