olyclimber Posted December 6, 2004 Posted December 6, 2004 Olympic Mountains Trivia Question- Who named Warrior Peak? Quote
mtn_mouse Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Don't know, don't really care. But, if you care, try Smitty Parratts book "Gods and Goblins" Smitty knows all. Quote
olyclimber Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 Actually, I came across this bit of trivia in an AAJ from the 40s. There is also a nice little story about a Mt. Constance climbing accident by Norman Bright in the '43 AAJ. Quote
Macson Posted December 7, 2004 Posted December 7, 2004 Named by Becky for his brother Helmy who was off to war at the time. Now that is a BFG based on your BFH, cause I really have no idea. I bet that old AAJ is an interesting read though. Quote
olyclimber Posted December 7, 2004 Author Posted December 7, 2004 So sayeth Beckey in the '46 AAJ (not the War Edition): One week Iater I took a jaunt across Puget Sound into the Olympic Mountains, to visit the unclimbed second highest peak Cascade Climbs in the eastern front range. Its 7300-ft. double summit lies just north of Mt. Constance. Via Marmot Pass and the upper Dungeness Trail, the trip proved to be a marathon, the round trip distance in one day being 27 miles with 8000 ft. of altitude gained. More than once I fervently wished that I had had some sleep the previous night. The actual climb was from the W. up a conglomerate 300-ft rock pyramid. One 20-ft. vertical spot proved somewhat thrilling. As expected, there was no record on this or the slightly lower W. summit, so I took the liberty of building a cairn and gave the peak the name, “Warrior Peak.” Quote
johndavidjr Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 I'm wildly speculating dat olt Helmy went to Pacific rather zan Old Country? Quote
