I am going to Tokyo next week and have a week-end there. I thought I would climb Mt Fuji, to add to my collection of Pacific Rim volcanoes. Plus, I am trying to bag some peaks that klenke hasn't bagged yet, and maybe that one will work tongue.gif.

Has any of you climbed it? Experience to share? From what I can read on the Net, it looks like a Mt Adams kind of thing, just walk up. Even easier maybe as there is not much snow (a permanent snow field inside the crater but not much on th sides I've been told, though pics always show a white cap) unless it started to snow already. Though that page says Fuji isn't really climb outside of a June-August period because of "bad climate." Details?

I am also looking for alternate climbing things to do there. I was in a car wreck 2 days ago so I am not sure how much I'll be able to use my right hand though. (I am right handed, it wouldn't be fun otherwise.)

Reading the links on this post brings back really weird memories. I climbed Fuji in 1994 over labor day weekend. I was over there for 2 weeks with my navy reserve unit and climbed it Saturday and Sunday. I took a tour bus from the base in Yokosuka to the 5th station, climbed to a hut around 10k and spent the night, then to the top before sunrise.

Every so many feet there would be a hut with a vendor selling things, including the use of his branding iron for your walking stick, which all the lamest tourists (like me) did. At the top, they had a regular little city. A little downtown on the mountain top.

Please post pictures of your trip. I can only imagine what kind of a ghost town the summit must look like in November.
