newyorktank Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Heading up South Side route from Timberline. Planning on crashing the night before in parking lot and leaving around 2am. Quote
cluck Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Sure you want to do Hood South side this time of year? Perhaps you know this, but the upper mountain is very loose & crappy when it doesn't have snow. IMHO, not all that safe and not very fun. Food for thought. Quote
newyorktank Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Well is there any part of the Mountain you recommend for this time of year? Quote
b-rock Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Well is there any part of the Mountain you recommend for this time of year? The Timberline Trail is pretty. Or cragging on the Elliot. As for summiting, no. Quote
snodger Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Never done it myself and 'oregon high' doesn't recommend it in late season, but the sunshine route looked pretty nice last friday from the Langille crags area. Maybe someone with experience on the route will chime in... Quote
Chriznitch Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 it's definitely a step up from the south side, but do-able if you're experienced and prepared. You should expect ice and plan for extra crevasse negotiation time on Sunshine this time of year Quote
Gaper_Jeffy Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Well is there any part of the Mountain you recommend for this time of year? Snowdome. Bring skis. Quote
