scot'teryx Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 Join Cascade Guiding Services and Cascade Crags on September 25 to help cleanup, maintain, and create better ways to make Mount Erie a better place to climb for the community. Adopt-a-Crag is about giving back to the climbing areas we use on a regular basis. From the signs in the parking areas, to the established trail systems, to the rocks and boulders where we devote endless hours, climbers are frequent land-users, and it is important that we make an effort to maintain and care for that land. Adopt-a-Crag encourages climbing communities to engage local land managers, landowners, park service employees and forest rangers in conversation about ways to preserve and protect their climbing areas and environments. Distel32 Posted August 1, 2004 Posted August 1, 2004 hhhmmmm, seems like an odd place to do an adopt-a-crag day in my mind......
larrythellama Posted August 18, 2004 Posted August 18, 2004 We all can only hope that Adopt a crag does a better job this year then when they were out at index last and made a mess of the inner wall and spent countless hours scrubbing an already perfectly clean crag, whilst avoiding any crag that actually needed scrubbing and pruning or trail work.
larrythellama Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 I just wanted to bring this back to the top and remind people: DO NOT LET ADOPT A CRAG RUIN YOUR FAVORITE PLACE TO CLIMB! they need to have some sort of polling to where they can find out from the people who actually climb at a given crag to what they think is needed to make it better with that and communication with the land manager things could work out. until then do not let adopt a crag ruin the ambiance anymore then they already have at most crags.
scot'teryx Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 That is why we have been in correspondence with John Lunsford from the City of Anacortes, along with Dallas Kloke who has devoted large amounts of his life to the development of Mt Erie and what it has become today. We will be concentrating on trail reconstruction to prevent erosion, rebuliding steep trails, litter pickup, and re-bolting some of the more popular routes.
Dave_Schuldt Posted August 22, 2004 Posted August 22, 2004 That place shure needs some work. I hope to make it up there and help out.
scot'teryx Posted September 23, 2004 Author Posted September 23, 2004 Just a reminder that the Adopt-A-Crag event is going to be happening this Saturday the 25th from 10am until ??. The BBQ afterwards is going to be sponsored by Cascade Crags with Hamburgers and Hot HC's. There will also be a very large gear raffle from about 20 manufacturers Dallas Kloeke will also be there to give you all the new haps on the area. L8R
hohm Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Thanks Scott for you work in organizing this, and thanks to the Access Fund and Cascade Crags for providing the swag at the barbeque. Having been an Erie climber for many years, I was pleased to see some much needed work go into the trail system, and it was great to have a lot of the trash picked up around the upper walls (damned tourists). It was a good thing to do.....
