pnut
Howdy folks. I'm heading up to the south face or west ridge of Prusik Peak this weekend. Is there still significant snow near the lakes? How would I do up there in running shoes?
Doug_Hutchinson
Running shoes would be fine. I climbed the south face on 6/26/04. Minor patches only to the base of the SF then. Post-holing in solid snow from the base of the NF raps back to the west ridge (about 100 yard traverse) but easy due to the soft snow. Could be almost all gone by now. I used approach shoes only. ken4ord
Running shoes are the way to go right now. They most likely get wet, but still way more comfortable than boots.

sketchfest
Do you think an axe would be appropriate?
Greg_W
Do you think an axe would be appropriate? Â Fires are not allowed above 4,000 feet; you shouldn't be cutting wood.

Bug
I was up there Sun-Mon and the snow was pretty hard early in the AM. Otherwise, pretty easy going without an ax.
troubleski
via snow lakes: no snow to the lake short patches of snow on approach (NE of the lake) soft snow traverse on the North Side descent (fine in rock shoes on 6/29)  Ice axe may be useful for fending off goats.... lots of goats  -Andy
Fromage
Leave the axe behind. You might find a surgical tubing slingshot more useful, or an industrial sized canister of goat spray deterrent. I think you can buy that at REI.
