Was up Tunnel Creek this weekend doing the ridge beyond the bump above Harrison Lake. On the way back down into the woods noticed someone had flagged a route into the brush behind the Shelter on the trail. Anyone have any info on where this goes? I suspected it is maybe an alternate approach to Constance, perhaps route 7.

There is also flagging on the North Fork of Tunnel Creek or there was last year anyway. It can lead you astray. I was trying to get to Charlia Lakes and the flagging appeared to be marking a route towards Mt. Constance.

Yeah, I don't know about the route behind the shelter, but I ran into the stuff on the north fork. It branches and one side probably goes to Constance. The other branch which we followed for a bit did eventually lead to the very old trail up to Charlia Lakes. You can still see evidence of the trail in a few spots but it was kinda hard to follow.

I found out last night from someone who knows, that the flagging connects you with the approach to Destroyer and route 5 on Constance. It just avoids the creek area and starts heading up sooner. The new guidebook revision will have more to say about the east side approaches to Costance.

Hello capitalist!

Climb destroyer many year ago, don't remember any flagging. But this must be better approach to north side Constance than Dosewallip-Tunnel Creek divide.

Thank you for allow communist to post on usa website.

No problem commi.

Tell me about Destroyer. Those I've spoken to who have tried were not technical rock climbers, and they said they could not get up the last section to the summit. How much 5th class climbing is there? (Spaseba Bolshoi) - butchered Russian.

Lazyboy, I think I saw some of that flagging. Mostly to get you across the river by leaving the trail to charlia lakes and beginning your 'schwacking towards Constance. Someone also was cutting tops of tiny cedars with a lopper to mark the way. I think not many people use this approach anymore!

Hello capitalist John!

Nothing technical about 5.4 with no place for pro. A fun climb if you enjoy a long approach(good workout) with minor route finding and a little pucker factor. cantfocus.gif
