assmonkey Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 Or, so the headline will read. My guess is in, say, the August to October timeframe? The U.S. military is "sure" it will catch Osama bin Laden this year, a spokesman said Thursday, but he declined to comment on where the al-Qaida leader may be hiding. ... "We have a variety of intelligence and we're sure we're going to catch Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar this year," Hilferty said. "We've learned lessons from Iraq and we're getting improved intelligence from the Afghan people." Article. Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 29, 2004 Posted January 29, 2004 I am "sure" I will win the lottery this year. Quote
Stonehead Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 According to this source, OBL has been captured. In any event, Al Qaida may be pursued into Pakistan . Quote
klenke Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 You might have said the same thing about Saddam, Brian, but now he's been captured. I think our chances of getting Osama bin Hidin are better odds than the lottery, but you keep on buying those tickets if you want. Quote
marylou Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 And Klenke, I'm sure the class will be fascinated by your parallel between the capture of Saddam and the capture of Osama. Care to explain that one? Quote
willstrickland Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I believe the implication here is that he's already in custody. And that BushCo will arrange a "Bin-Laden captured!" event when it's most beneficial in light of the politcal climate. Quote
assmonkey Posted January 30, 2004 Author Posted January 30, 2004 That, indeed, is the implication. At least the second part of your statement. I have faith that SpecOps have him in sight and they're just doggin' him and wearing him down until, say, the August to October timeframe. Quote
murraysovereign Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 "We've learned lessons from Iraq and we're getting improved intelligence" In other words: "we've learned not to get all caught up in our own over-excited hype, and are now actually trying to verify some of the stuff we're hearing before going off half-cocked and making stupid, expensive, embarassing mistakes on the basis of rumours, half-truths and outright lies." At least, I hope that's one of the lessons they learned. Quote
chucK Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 They're probably transporting him to Iraq right now. Settin' him up with a nice little hole complete with botulin toxin, a couple of Stingers, and dirty bomb or two. Poor John Kerry, finally getting close to the show only to be so far away. Kinda like when the Sonics got into the finals versus the Bulls. Quote
klenke Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Kinda like when the Sonics got into the finals versus the Bulls. I'd have liked to see the Rain Man slam dunk that Bin Laden! "Oh good golly Miss Molly!" ...and then turn it over the next four times down the court. Quote
assmonkey Posted February 4, 2004 Author Posted February 4, 2004 More hints toward the August to October timeframe. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is convinced the U.S. will track down the elusive mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks before November. “Obviously, he’ll be caught between now and the election,” Grassley said Monday when asked if he’s disappointed that Osama bin Laden hasn’t been killed or captured.
