My wife and I went XC skiing for the first time last week. We skiied up the Denny Creek road to Snoqualmie Pass and back. Can someone suggest another tour of similar difficulty (lack of steepness) near Snoqualmie Pass, preferably one that does not require a sno-park pass? Thanks.

Hey -

There's some good groomed trails atop the Snoqualmie ski areas. Go to Hyak XC center and pick up a pass for the "upper trails". You can ski up on low gradient trails or take the lift (good for two rides. Once up there head for Grand Junction and lots of options. If you go towards Ollalie Meadows there is a litte warming hut for lunch. You can explore the trails towards Silver Peak and run some of the clearcuts if you want to, and/or do the Mt. Catherine Loop. I've taken beginners up there and it's fun. Many miles of groomed trails and lots of options.
