geordie Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 For all those looking for ice climbing partners, mentors etc who aren't heading north or east (which is what you would be doing if you really wanted to climb ice) If you find some ice worth climbing, you will have no problems finding partners. It's like bringing a keg to a bonfire - instant party and lots of new friends. So where's it going to be - White Pines? Icicle? Strobach? Banks? Secret Olympic Pennisula stash? Oh yeah and Goat Mtn.. those B-ham boys better finish up their projects cause the cat's nearly outta the bag. Quote
Chad_A Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 Ummm....the freezer needs defrosting. Does that count? Seriously, I need to get on some WI/AI 2 or 3 to reorient myself. I'll be lookin' for ice, for sure. Hopefully, when I'm in Mazama around the weekend of the 24th, there will be two things there: Ice, and someone to climb it with. Quote
OlympicMtnBoy Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 Ok, I'm not that experienced at evaluating ice conditions but I'll spill the beans cause I'm nice and I don't have a partner. I've seen a bit of single, or maybe two-pitch ice up at Lake Angeles in the Olympics, although it's a 3 mile hike into it and the snow is soft and deep right now. I climbed a pitch of it about 3 weeks ago when I found someone to drag up there. It's probably better now, although the snow is deeper and the lake isn't frozen enough to walk across. Also I saw a couple of ice sections off the Source Lake trail at Snoqualmie last Thursday on my way up to climb the Tooth. Nasty soft snow and avalanche danger there though, but it might settle down. I'm probably not up to leading much of that, but if anyone else wants to I'd be up for it. Quote
Chad_A Posted December 27, 2003 Posted December 27, 2003 Well, sounds like you're in the same boat as I; if you like, PM me, and we can discuss some stuff. Maybe a couple of newbies (or, at least newbie, meaning me) can put together their skills and do something moderate. Quote
