eternalX Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 Too warm out there! Looks like the freezing levels will start dropping today, but over thelast few days it appears that Stevens has stayed colder than Baker. But then again, weather confuses me. Anybody know the skinny? Quote
ken4ord Posted December 23, 2003 Posted December 23, 2003 I have notice that too. It looks like Crystal has the best conditions, then Snoqualmie, Stevens, and then Baker that is as far as the weather is concerned. Definitely seem warmer as you move up North. Quote
lancegranite Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 (edited) Baker lies completely on the west slopes of the state. Cold air from the east usually keeps things a little more cold. Check the weather at the top of chair 2 at Mission ridge some time...bruahhdbd!(cold noise) Crystal is the new Hyak. Edited December 24, 2003 by lancegranite Quote
Dave_Schuldt Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 BAKER IS CLOSED ON XMASS!!!! CHECK THIER WEBSITE!!!! Quote
bobbyperu Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 Mt Baker is the funnest hill in the state, best terrain, most amount of sno, family owned and operated, great BC around, with easy acssess, lovely drive, northfork brewery, alpenglow farms for tayberry pie, great skiers and riders, strong local love for the area, rich history, amazing veiws... yadda yadda. but stevens is o.k., and crystal has the best area maintained/controlled backcountry in the state. and snoq pass is close open at nite, and can be really fun if you know where to go. never been to mission..? but basically were stoked living in this state... we have the potential for perfect conditions geographically...and steep terrain, big trees, maritime snopack...were psyched basically. just my 2 cents. oh and by the way its beautiful at stevens right now, fresh sno and sun breaks, cold too... come and get it-bp Quote
Crackbolter Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 You know BP, I still like Stevens better. I think it is the nostalgia of my first days at a resort. The last time I went out to a resort was Stevens two weekends ago. I hiked past the shack and took a frontside run and blissed in waist deep powder. I got picked up by the man who built the shack and he brought me back to the resort. I didn't walk but accross the highway after a run better than any of last year. No tracks were in sight anywhere (except my own). Maybe it is because the rivers are close, Leavenworth is just a skip and a jump and Index is a stones throw. I know Santa and his wife and son and grandson. Â It is like family. Oh yeah and Rusty is a kick ass girl! I remember when she was a rental girl. Now I see her with a patrol jacket on. That rocks. PONCHO&LEFTY Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 Have to love the layer of haze formed over Baker in stale weather from the generators. Baker is only open for like 7 hours or so. Slow lifts. Stevens at least updates their lifts and such. Baker just gets more expensive. I find it better to not waste money on a ticket there and hike around instead. Try beating Bakers scenery though. -And the N. Fork Brew. By the way have they fixed the elevation on Mt. Shuksan yet on their map? Quote
Crackbolter Posted December 24, 2003 Posted December 24, 2003 I do like the summit shot of the climbers in the Baker lodge. Alpestocks and Axes are all you need! Quote
eternalX Posted December 27, 2003 Author Posted December 27, 2003 Stevens....Baker..... I like em both. I find it funy how much people will pay to go to the big resorts when their hometown mountains pack an amazing array of stashes that will have you smiling all the way down. Â Anyway, boarded wednesday at stevens. Was great all the way until the last run. Baker today was epic. 18" of untouched in 48. Supposed to snow for the next two days too. Â Quote
ken4ord Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 I gone to Baker once and hit Stevens about 4 times and got to say I like both. I have yet to get to the backcountry stuff at Baker and that is what will probably sell me. Why isn't Crystal included in choices. I just went to Crystal for the first time yesterday and I must say that is the best riding I have done out here to date. Quote
eternalX Posted December 30, 2003 Author Posted December 30, 2003 Well, i have a trailer at baker so that's pretty much all i ever go to anymore. I went to crystal once and it looked like there were probably lots of places to go, but 1. the whole 6-person chair thing is off-putting and 2. I don't know anybody else that goes there. Quote
