kurthicks Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 has anyone used these with mountaineering boots? it looks like one could pull off the plastic on the toe bail and it'd be like step in 500s? Quote
Doug_Hutchinson Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 The 505 is basically what you are describing - 500 wire toe bail with the step heel of a 555. I have the 555 and have never skied it my plastic mtn boots, but they seem to fit fine with the plastic toe piece covering the bail (actually the toe seems to fit better than with my AT boots). From what I understand, they added the plastic to make downhill skiers think they were stepping into a trick downhill binding, not a clunky AT rig. Quote
kurthicks Posted December 10, 2003 Author Posted December 10, 2003 but do your mountaineering boots fit in them? mine are under the 37mm spec for click-in compatability. Quote
cman Posted December 10, 2003 Posted December 10, 2003 I have the slightly older version of this same binding which does not have the plastic thing on the toe. otherwise it is the same binding and i like it, i only use it with AT stuff though. check the latest Off-Piste, has a review of these bindings plus the 500 series which may be what you are looking for.
