Is anyone experienced a welt wear down to a point that the crampons starts slipping off the boots…it happened once or twice on my 6 years old Nepal Top ( that still looking like they just came out of the shopping box despite wear on the front welt (the crampons bail in cut))

Anyway to deal with that? cantfocus.gifconfused.gif

Yeah, I've had the same problem witht the same boot. Look at a new pair, you'll see they have modified the toe on the newer models.

I had mine repaired at Quick Cobbler and they did what seems like a schweet job, but I haven't had much time to try them out since the repair to see how it holds up.

I might be able to post a pic of it sometime soon.

Ok Icebaby, here it is:

If you look close you can see that the green part of the midsole is ground away at an angle. It is a little harder to see that there is a wedge of hard material glued in there, before the new sole was glued on. The sandwich is like this:

Green mid sole

Wedge of hard material

Vibram sole

The wedge extend slightly furhter than the original toe did, so affords a more secure platform for the bail.

As I said, I have not got many miles on these boots since the repair, and I think, zero pitches of kicking. I have a friend who had the same thing done, and it worked for him though.
