Fairweather Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Which is the largest glacier in Oregon? a.) Elliot b.) Whitewater c.) Collier I'm not sure of the answer. Over the years, I've heard and/or read of each taking the prize. Maybe this is due to volume versus area differences? (ie: The Emmons is the largest glacier in Washington, but the Carbon, and possibly the Blue on Olympus, actually contain more ice.) Anyone know for sure? Quote
skyclimb Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 (edited) the whitewater glacier on the east side of Mt. Jefferson is the largest glacier in Oregon. Hands down for surface area.... and depth i would presumb..... Edited November 13, 2003 by skyclimb Quote

I can see the Collier perhaps being much thicker than the Whitewater, and hence more voluminous. Quote
b-rock Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Collier, says Google. None of the links differentiate between mass and surface area though. Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 I'd believe Whitewater, but I haven't seen the Collier. I know I've seen reference to the Whitewater being the **** in Oregon, but I can't remember if it's the largest, longest, or something else. Quote
iain Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 **** meaning: lamest, longest, most tiring, boring choice of descent in all of the pnw. Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 we were across it in an hour, I didn't think it was that bad! Quote
