Dru Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 {prompted by comments on the vantage accident thread but did not want to piss off more people by commenting anymore on that thread... } if someone starts a thread about topic X, are all comments other than comments about X to be considered spray? 'cause it seems to me that comments about or on the comments others make are perfectly legitimate expressions and should be encouraged even if the thread does become self-referential. this would increase the information* content of the thread and leads to a topic becoming a metatopic in the post modern sense. but maybe everyone here is trapped in modernity? Or as trask would say, "kiss it " so c'mon and flame me, flames are true metacontent! *as defined by Claude Shannon of MIT Quote
vegetablebelay Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 Thread creep is present in every thread - even simple trip reports, and nobody really complains about it. The A at V thread was a feel-good thread where everyone could get behind the message. When the sway of the spray went another way, apparently we were all supposed to ignore it in deference to people close to the story. My bad I guess Here's some flames Dru [ 03-05-2002: Message edited by: vegetablebelay ] Quote

Jman Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 Dru, you're creeping off your own topic. Tsk, tsk! Quote
roger_johnson Posted March 5, 2002 Posted March 5, 2002 Mayby thread creep is like a knot in slippry rope, with a little tension the rope pulls through the knot. The knot is still there but not in the same place. Quote
texplorer Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 That sounds more like a Bowline thread Roger. Quote
