Dru Posted August 18, 2003 Posted August 18, 2003 Did the hike up Outram today. 6000 feet elevation gain on good trail. Saw no one except one guy named "Dan from Oregon" who ran by us very quickly with a stopwatch and GPS and a large dog following him. It took US about 4.5 hours up. The meadows are nice, the scree is not, the summit has fine views of everything 360 degrees from the Kamloops fire smoke, to the icefields of eastern Garibaldi Park, thru the Cheam Range, Chilliwack Valley peaks, Baker, Shuksan, Sumallo headwaters, Spickard-Redoubt-Devils Tongue, Ptarmigan glaciers (??) Jack Hozomeen Castle Crater, Hardy Tower Azurite (??), Cathedral and Grimface massif, and the vast rolling hilly blandness of the BC interior back to the Kamloops fire plume again. Some fun scrambling betwixt the two summits on a class 2-3 scree ridge. Back to the car and off to Hope for pie and ice cream Net animal sightings one golden eagle, one peregrine, one unusual falcon (a kestrel??) assorted snafflehounds from chipmunk to marmot families, and NO BEARS!! In conclusion peak bagging is a fun and worthwhile activity if pursued in moderation and used as a spacer between climbing trips Quote
