Questoin concerning big rocks in Peru

I'm wondering if anyone here has knowledge of big walls in Peru.

La Esfinge and not much else developed yet to my knowledge. Try checking back issues of AAJ and High Mountain Sports.

There is a fairly well known one at the entrance to the Huascaran National park into the Huandy Group area.

There actually are known to be quite a few others many with lines never even attempted (Cordillera Blanca and Huayhash spelling?).

I am not a big wall guy...but a buddy has his eye on a line down there so I hear about the areas. I have also sen the big wall at the Huasacaran entrance area. Climbing had an article on it a while back...fairly recent...say past two or three years.

The one Rodchester mentions is La Esfinge (The Sphinx). Where Leo Houlding accused Sean Isaac of being an "Aid Climbing Rapist" for drilling a rivet ladder on a FA.

But by the way....Peru ROCKS!!! I loved my trip there, the mountains are just incredible...so much better than Ecuador. Food was excellent and the people were pretty cool too. Enjoy if you go.

Oh according to the latest AAJ Puntacarpa Norte looks like it has some good rock too.

I agree there are walls all over. Porters, mules, food is dependable and cheap. When I was there I met aguy from Ney York who said he goes there every June/July because of the number of possible first ascents. He has an incredible tick list. It's all about time and aclimitazation (sp). Good luck - Peru Rules
