Fairweather Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 I took the kid up on a Mt Ellinor conditioner this morning. You can drive to within 5 minutes walk of the upper trailhead. The wooded ridge trail is bare until you reach the switchbacks, then snow. I would say that there is much more snow than usual in the chute and on top for this time of year. Still a good sized cornice and the top is 100% snow. New snow on all of the trees up higher, but melting fast today. Good boot path the whole way, no skis or snowshoes necessary. Quote
roboclimber Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Thanks for the report. I was thinking about doing a conditioner. Did you has a good glissade ? Quote
David_Parker Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 How old is your kid. Mine is 8 but climbed Ellinor when he was 4! Was thinking of taking him up for a ski down. Quote
bubblebutt Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 What was the avy danger like on ellinor. I want to get out but am very cautious at the moment with regards avy, but I've got cabin fever and need to get out??? Quote
Norman_Clyde Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 The gully is south facing, less than 45 degrees, not very high altitude. It should have crusted over several times in recent days, and is unlikely to have significant new snow on the crust, so it should be low risk. But that's just a guess. Quote
Fairweather Posted April 30, 2003 Author Posted April 30, 2003 No avy problems. Just a lot of snow on top. The glissade was just "forming up" but wasn't a bob-sled run yet. There has been some new snow since I was up there, but I doubt it is/was significant. Quote
David_Parker Posted May 12, 2003 Posted May 12, 2003 UPDATE (May 11): You can drive all the way to the upper trailhead. Plenty of snow from before bottom of chute and up. The otter slide is well formed and fairly deep in spots. It messes up skiing the chute. With cloud cover it was still fairly firm and fast, but unlikely you'd come out of it. We (my 8 year old son) skiied the summer route instead. Fun, fun, fun! Quote
