hasbeen Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 It's been years since I had an avalanche course (too many to admit) and the last one I took was not in the Pacific Northwest. I've been meaning to take a course here for a couple of years. I think this winter I will. Anyone have any recommendations for good courses this winter? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Lambone Posted October 30, 2001 Posted October 30, 2001 I hear that Gary Brill puts on a good course. We have a flyer up in the gym, I can get more specifics later tonight, or call Vertical World in Seattle. Quote
hasbeen Posted October 30, 2001 Author Posted October 30, 2001 Thanks, Lammy. If you can post details, I'd appreciate it. Quote
slothrop Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 You can take Gary Brill's course through REI, there are three sessions this winter, each with 3 lectures at 6.30pm at the Seattle (or Redmond?) stores, and a field day. It's something like $130 for members. It's also offered at Marmot Mtn Works, who are doing a short, free clinic, too: http://www.marmotmountain.com/events.htm This post is part of my plot to outdo lambone [ 10-30-2001: Message edited by: slothrop ] [ 10-30-2001: Message edited by: slothrop ] Quote
Norm Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 The Washington Alpine Clubs Backcountry Travel Course is about 1/3 Avalanche Course. Info at washingtonalpineclub.org. It's also a good way to troll for back country partners and encompasses skiers, snowshoers and knuckle draggers. Quote
hasbeen Posted October 31, 2001 Author Posted October 31, 2001 Thanks, Sloth. I'll let you and Lambone work out your thing by yourselves; I ain't gonna get in the middle of that one! Quote
Lambone Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 You win sloth... sorry hasbeen, I forgot to check the flyer for you. Quote
Rodchester Posted November 2, 2001 Posted November 2, 2001 You can always call Mountain Madness for info on Gary's course. Gary Guides for M2 and the course is an M2 coourse. They can set you up. I took it three years ago and learned a lot. Quote
