Weekend_Climberz Posted March 2, 2003 Posted March 2, 2003 Just wondering if anyone has recently been up the road to Monte Cristo. I considering heading up to Glacier Basin next weekend and would like to know if skiis and/or snowshoes would be the best option, or if just hiking it would work. Quote

nolanr Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 I made it as far as the Dickerman trailhead on Saturday, road was clear, and while this is speculation I'm gonna guess you wouldn't encounter much snow as far as the Monte Cristo townsite. As you get up into Glacier Basin 'shoes or skis might be helpful, depending on how many people have been up there recently. There was a well packed trail going up Dickerman but when I veered off it to take a "short cut" up a gully I was plowing thru some surprisingly powdery snow. Quote
Bronco Posted March 3, 2003 Posted March 3, 2003 Drove up to the Monte Cristo Trailhead Sunday, only about 2" of snow on the road past the gate. Could be some big stretches of bare road in the south facing areas. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted April 22, 2003 Author Posted April 22, 2003 I never made it up there last month, but am thinking conditions are much better now. Has anyone been up there recently, either Poodle Dog Pass or Glacier Basin? I'm not sure what the snow line is at and haven't been able to find anything more recent than early March. I imagine that it may still be under some snow. Quote
