Jim Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Well, maybe there has been a bunch of climbers flocking to the park without climbing gyms open? I've been going there for 30+ years to boulder a few laps around the base, but now there are "Historic Structure - No Climbing" signs up. What's the world coming to? Quote
Kameron Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Those signs have been there for 5 years or so. As far as I can tell, they are not enforced. But I have been scowled at by old ladies walking by. Haven't been in a year or two, need to check it out again.... Quote
Jim Posted July 27, 2020 Author Posted July 27, 2020 (edited) Really? Maybe I've just been blissfully blind - seriously, I don't think I could have missed them (?). God, I sound like an old guy. Edited July 28, 2020 by Jim Quote
JayB Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Something about the times we're living in gives me reason to believe that anyone reporting your transgressions at the tower will not be able to persuade a dispatcher to send a LEO to enforce the ban. It'd actually be kind of interesting to see how many misdemeanor or higher offenses you'd have to commit simultaneously while cranking out laps to meet that threshold these days.... Quote
Kameron Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Climbing, smoking weed, and drinking beer is not enough to bring the cops from what I can tell.... Quote
JayB Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Yeah. You'll have to do way better than that to rile up the locals. Wearing a t-shirt with "Soy is Murder!" in large block letter on the back while you're cranking out your laps ought to do the trick.... Quote
Jim Posted August 13, 2020 Author Posted August 13, 2020 Funny, I was there the other day as well, looking over my shoulder. About 10 years ago I was there and a couple old(er) guys came by and told me they were ex-Mountaineers. When they were youngin's they used to go into the tower and throw a rope out the window and top rope - eventually the windows were covered with mesh. Was good to hear the rebel tendencies go way back. Quote
