bonathanjarrett Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 Inquiring minds would like to know whether it is necesssary/prudent to bring crampons/ice ax on the NE Buttress of Slesse right now. Thanks Jonathan Quote
JasonG Posted August 9, 2017 Posted August 9, 2017 I think it would depend on which way you plan on descending. Not that I have any current information! Quote
bonathanjarrett Posted August 10, 2017 Author Posted August 10, 2017 The intended descent is the Crossover Descent. I wouldn't have even considered it, but Steph Abegg's trip report from July suggests that they were helpful, perhaps even necessary. As a result, I was hoping someone could provide some more current information. Thanks Quote
G-spotter Posted August 11, 2017 Posted August 11, 2017 I think the snow and ice is gone now. Too smoky to see for sure though without going up there. Just hack steps with yer nut tool if you really need to. Quote
bonathanjarrett Posted August 15, 2017 Author Posted August 15, 2017 Bump for any current knowledge of the situation. Many thanks. Quote
G-spotter Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Current knowledge: lenticular cloud cap forming over summit Quote
JasonG Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 You need to put up a pay per view webcam Dru. Beer money! Quote
bellows Posted August 16, 2017 Posted August 16, 2017 Here's a pic towards the Crossover Descent from last Saturday morning: You certainly don't need crampons/axe for the Slesse Mountain trail descent. Very doubtful you need them for the Crossover. And if you can get up the buttress you probably have enough alpine trickery up your sleeve to deal with potential snow on the crossover anyways. Quote
