Lucky Larry Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 If Governor Kate Brown would enlist the National Guard to set up an American Citizen Refugee Camp, with the necessary medical and social services on site this homeless and working poor crises would gain some traction. Please stop studying it and actually do something purposeful. It's not rocket science. sickie Quote
ivan Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 i've never understood the attraction the pacific northwest has for the homeless - why not florida? haiwaii? arizona? Quote
JosephH Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 As a united pilot my father flew into pdx fairly often after WWII and crews were put up at the Benson. He said you had to constantly step over drunks and the homeless on the sidewalk the length of Broadway to get anywhere. Said that's why the temperance folks got the water fountains installed. Seems like it was better for a couple of decades, but being the cheapest city on the west coast has caused an influx at the top which has progressively pushed tons of folks out of housing at the bottom. Not sure what can be done - tough problem in a 'free enterprise' system and society which doesn't put a high intrinsic value on human life. Quote
Pete_H Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 They have those in Seattle. I guess it helps the homeless issue but definitely doesn't solve the problem. Quote
