he'd be far better off by just coming out and saying "being gay is wrong, therefore we're banning gay marriage" than making these convoluded, hypocritical, contradictory statements.

i have a good friend who is gay. knew him for 3 years before he came out of the closet, and had no idea he was gay. he was a big ol' bearded dude who stayed out late and drank most of us under the table. definately not the gay stereotype. he's still that same guy, i just happen to know his sexual preference now.
as far as kids carrying some sort of load or burden... that's a crock of shit. the only people carrying a burden are those of you who fear what you don't understand, or don't want to accept the world as it is. having a normal childhood is not based upon the sexuality of your parents.
what a fucking mess. like this country doesn't have more pressing and grave issues to tackle...
way to go bush, you fucking hypocritical jackass.

what an unfortunate tragedy for the climber and her family/friends. i have a really good friend who's in the tetons right now with his wife. they're heading up the grand sometime this week (maybe already).
i was relieved to not see either of their names reported with regards to this event.

two that come to mind off the top of my head are:
chucK - climbed with teh fella one cold fuckin' day in december a couple years ago at index. got a photographic memory, meaning that i even remember his wife was playing hockey (right?) that day, and chucK chose a sonic youth cd for drivin' tunes...
being the pussy i am, compounded by teh fact that i feared the reputation index has as a sandbag granite crack haven, i was glad that chucK led p.1. of godzilla and p.2. of city park. thankfully, i pulled both, clean. it felt really good. we also did piceces and some other great pitches at GNS. flashed everything i set out upon (following chucK's lead), thanks to many, many hours at teh UW rock refining my crack climbing. what a great day. index 10c crack, clean. couldn't be happier.
mattp - i did a route up squire creek wall with mattp in october 10, 2000. once again, i was a general candy ass. plus i tweaked my ankle on the first roped pitch of climbing. it was nothing that truely threatened mobility; it just hurt and was annoying. mattp is a hell of a guy and we bushwhacked some fierce terrain, then climbed 7 fine pitches of varied terrain, toasting guinness before the adventurous descent/hike/downclimb.
i've also bouldered with some talented, strong folks, who inspire on a regular basis. same goes for other trad partners i've climbed with.
that's what makes climbing great!

nah... probably some grad student, or a professor who needs to publish and couldn't think of anything better to do.
besides, i'd guess it's pretty easy to convince student assistants to kick it around the PNW for a summer doing some easy survey shit and climbing/hiking/fishing/etc for the rest of the time.

as far as i'm concerned, i'd forget plans of ambitious route climbing and just throw your shoes/chalk bag/small brush in a dry bag and have fun on the riverside boulders that sport soft, sandy landings. there should be more than enough of those to keep you occupied during down time.

5 minute drive from home. 5 minute walk up the trail.
fun as hell, requires no partner or planning, and keeps me strong.
besides, a crash pad makes a great futon for kickin' back, swilling beer, and watching the sun set after a hard day of pulling down.
i like my pad.
i like my rack.
i like my draws.
and now i'm out for the weekend...

i went to the UI and logged A LOT of hours at granite point. for being only 20 minutes away from pullman, it's a good little practice crag. routes are mainly top rope, unless someone's been lead bolting since I left in 1999, and range from 5.easy to 5.13 or so.
the bouldering is pretty good as well. there's some good stuff on the back side of the crag along the grassy shelfs, and really good bouldering at the point across the river. just bring a rubber raft, a pad, and some beers and you've got the makings for a finger ripping good time over there.

it was mid 60's today and partly sunny - perfect.
i took the 10 minute drive to post falls, idaho and bouldered with some friends. continued working the best boulder problem i've ever been on. probably another week or two before i get it done. did some other fun problems. tried to not get west nile virus. i can't believe how many mosquitos are already out!

well, that's where we disagree. it's as simple as that. i see the situation differently than you do.
the great thing about little kids is that they don't come with all the stereotypes and biases we have as adults. raise a kid from birth in a straight home and a gay home with the same loving environment, and each of those kids will probably see their own respective family situation as "normal."
