  1. this weekend (april 30 - may 2) looks like it's going to be quite nice; 70's and sunny.

anyone out there interested in a tum tum boldering/climbing/camping/early cinco de mayo throwdown?

for those not familiar, tum tum is about 20 minutes west of spokane in a scenic area just off the spokane river.

tons of granite, some of which is super pure, recently-cooked white goodness.

i might even buy the first pony keg, or case or two, or half gallon of tequila.

don't check the forum lots... so email to: micah_lauer@hotmail.com

    2. the temperature on the sign at the best western is ALWAYS at least 2*C to warm. As far as i know it doesn't rain when it's -2*C

    It's called freezing rain.

    I've seen it rain when it's -10*C.

no shit... rain at 28 degrees F and snow at 46 degrees F. it happens.

  3. if you don't use vermouth, why not alleviate the confusion and just ask the bartender for some cold gin with an olive.

oh... because that's not as 'sophisticated' as asking for a martini!

  4. of course!

because the big, healthy trees that timber companies want are the problem, not the brush and undergrowth built up by years of fire suppression?

  5. friday - hung over, slept half the day, felt better later on, drank some beer

saturday - hung out with my wife, watched some movies, drank a half rack of icehouse and a couple micros

sunday - bouldered, put up 2 new problems, gave my liver a break

i've gone bouldering a few times this week and put up 3 more new problems to make up for my laziness last weekend.

  6. speaking of sweet working conditions...

i know a guy (college student) who works as a driver for that town's local distributer. the owner is down with drinking at work and keeps a beer fridge stocked. he lets a lot of free beer go out of there, and only does a rough hand-count inventory once a month, so "missing" beer is never really noticed.

one day the guy i know shows up fucking hung over as all hell and still hammered. his boss looks him over and simply says, "you look like shit; go have a beer." the best part is that he was serious and the guy indulged.

still in the sponsor gathering/media blitz/ planning stages for this, it looks to be good.

"fostering stewardship of the vertical environment," not "partying"!

did you ever think to fucking ask if people wanted to make such a fundamental shift in the purpose/execution of the ropeup.

    that was your first mistake.

  8. so WTF?!?! has TG and his brew been driven away? that would fucking suck.

it's not about free beer, but the bigger issue. a seemingly quality (haven't met the dude) guy who is a great part of the cc.com has potentially been driven away from participation in a low-key, casual get together because of generally unwanted organization and corporate sponsorship of shit beer.

and i'm wholy against the "come one, come all" atmosphere.

IT'S THE MOTHERFUCKING CC.COM ROPEUP. IF YOU'RE NOT A CLIMBER OF SOME SORTS, FUCK OFF. IF YOU'RE NOT A CC.COM USER OR A FRIEND OF CC.COM, WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU THERE?

for real. are we having an annual get together, or a fucking corporate gear demo event for the general public? who is the target attendee and are we catering to him/her?

and lastly, i really don't think outdoor toprope gyms for non-climbing gumbies has anything to do with cc.com or the loose group of people and avatars who post here. if we want to bring non-climbing spouses, etc there are more than enough people who'd throw a rope up or two and help out. better yet, make that your own responsibility/problem. topropes to attract/encourage non-climbers sucks.

there are some good things about this format, and some very bad things about this format. i applaud beck for trying to organize things, but i'll also chide him for not coming to the fucking website where the ropeup originated, and taking the important first step of gathering opinions/ideas of everyone before contacting sponsors (if that was even wanted). good idea, bad execution.

    end of story.
