  1. The traverse from Ice Lakes is very straightforward, I did it a few weeks ago. I don't think it would add too much time compared to going from the Maude-7FJ col (assuming you get to Ice Lakes from Leroy Basin). Be prepared for some low-angle glacier ice on the traverse.

It might add a bergschrund to your climb too (it was well bridged on the far climbers right 10 days ago).

  2. Rangers like to use closed roads as their own little private paradise. Happens all the time on highway 410.

The ranger parked at boston basin was there with a non-ranger friend, it looked like... not a "business" trip (pure conjecture on my part though)

oh, and of course on their way out, they checked to see that there were NW forest passes displayed on the cars at the gate that locks the rest of us out from the road in perfect condition. thumbs_up.gif

Oh well - the short bike ride keeps the crowds away anyway laugh.gif

  3. I find the Good Food veggie burgers pretty... well... good. Pricey yes.

Where is the pizza place in Concrete?

Used to be a place called the Baker Street Grill in Concrete... that place was awesome. But they closed a few years ago and moved to Oregon.

  4. it should be open in a few weeks according to the rangers since there is snow just before the cascade pass TH and there isn't "enough parking."

If any rangers are reading this: it is extremely LAME that the gate is locked. The road is in perfect shape beyond the gate. thumbs_down.gif

  5. we tried cutting across the slope higher up, trying to stay on snow. We ran into several stream crossings and increasing steepness, so we just headed down hill through the trees.

Hmm.. how bad was it? Thinking of heading in there soon. With over 100 inches of snow at heather meadows still, I was hoping that traverse approach might still go. I recall a few stream gullies, but no steep slopes - was there still enough snow on that side of the valley to make it go? i.e. was it lack of snow that made you decide to try the other approach, or did you mess up your route-finding grin.gif
