  1. dont have any info about the routes youre talking about but went up SS wed, snow from last storm had not yet consolidated, doing a bit of wading
  2. Sheep

    Leash length

attach it to your wrist, or use no leash
  3. I saw one of these when i thru hiked the PCT this summer, it was a bit ridiculous and i was weary that it wouldnt hold up to a self arrest, i carried a CAMP corsa which is a couple of ounces lighter, but UIAA approved, if i were to do it again i wouldnt carry an axe, just trekking poles
  4. i bought my friend a peak XV jacket for xmas to use on our aconcagua trip, i had tried on a few jackets incl a mhw sub zero parka, i have a north face himalayan jacket, the peak xv seems pretty close to my jacket, and way above in the quality and warmth of the sub-zero my only gripe is that it does not have a proper water bottle pocket, the pocket they have you could not fit a nalgene or 1 liter bottle in btw it is 850 fill per whittaker mountaineerings site
  5. might be a good idea to wait until summer to go bushwhacking
  6. let me know if you have anything left, would take a 9mm
  7. thanks for the info, i have gotten my eyes a little fried before but they had some light leakage and were $20 sunglasses at best, i think ill be good with these
  8. water- a quick google search of the model brought up a bunch of places to buy from, heres the first link http://www.opticsplanet.net/pyramex-venture-ii-safety-glasses-3-0-ir-filter-lens-black-frame-sb1860sf.html i would believe that is correct, i think something with a lower % blocked would be more suitable for 10-14k feet, i would be taking these prospective glasses to 22k feet
  9. Ive been shopping around a bit for some sunglasses which would be appropriate at high altitudes... from what i understand the main specs to look for are UV A/B/C protection, and visible light reduction i was put off a little bit when i found i could get safety glasses with polycarbonate lenses (shatter resistant) for less than $10 that have similar specs to glacier glasses http://www.pyramexsafety.com/products/eyewear/sb1860sf these have 89% vis. light reduction and have 99% UV protection, am i really missing out on anything by buying these instead of mountaineering sunglasses?
  10. have some time between leaving my job and going traveling (leaving saturday morning), weather is looking decent later this week, looking for a 2 day climb gib ledges or ingraham direct, have taken crevasse rescue class recently send me a pm Joe
  11. Trip: Mt Hood - Old Chute Date: 2/20/2009 Trip Report: Conditions could not have been better, temp was around 20-25 degrees up top and did not experience any icefall, didnt bother with the proper summit only gaining the ridge at around 8am, last year the ridge was a piece of cake. snow was somewhat consolidated with a layer of rime ice underneath, things softened up on the way down for an easy descent Gear Notes: hat girlfriend made me for valentines day ridiculously warm down jacket etc.. Approach Notes: Left timberline lodge around 2:30
  12. i went up on the normal south route on fri & sat and the snow was very loose/deep in windslab areas around crater rock/hogsback, there were a few small visible avalanches near the top esp on the west crater rim route
