  5. Is Crystal Pass do-able thru July. Hoping to climb late July
  6. sorry did'nt get back to you earlier. you're probably up there but anyhow we did all glacier...much easier to travel. you will be above the shrund (or zigging between the parts of it) depending on what you choose ..otherwise no other OpeN crevasses
  7. Put a mini TR a few posts down. This is a fun route. Lots of camping all over 9600-10600 if you are planning a two day trip. There should be water to filter by now. Enjoy!!
  8. Trip: Mt Shasta - Hotlum Bolam Date: 5/24/2009 Trip Report: Kind of late and not much to report. went up on Saturday and camped at about 10,200. We had hoped to get up around 10,600 where there are some great camp sites but a T-storm built up and after honkering down for an hour or so with ice pelting and rolling thunder we decided to just camp there. This seemed like the right thing to do vs: being on a ridge. The clouds cleared out by late evening. Got up and started around 4 AM. Snow was perfect and we ran into no problems. We went left at the sharktooth and other wise the route is straightforward. Had some rockfall knocked loose by other climbers when crossing rock areas. Very few people on the north face (maybe 12 to 15) as compared to the hundreds coming up the gulch. This route is much longer but is similar to the south side of hood (difficulty wise) Gear Notes: We roped up and it was good practice for glacier travel but not necessary. Crampons, ice axe, helmet Approach Notes: The approach trail was tricky to find/follow on the way up. We took a more direct line instead of the switchbacks but stayed on trail coming down
  9. looking for some beta on this route; would this be the next step up from avy gulch (which I expect will be mobbed this weekend), I have climbed several routes on hood but will be with some folks that are about comfortable with the south side level...how do they compare?
  10. Was there last weekend. Just a couple a tiny patches which is unusual. The rock can be damp depending on what you climb but there is plenty of good dry climbing. Elevation is 22-2500.
  11. Any TR's from the SS for last Sat or Sun
  12. Mind is made up...will find some dry rock to play on but am really looking forward to some consoladation. This is from nwac OUTLOOK TO SUNDAY Sunny and much warmer weather is expected on Sunday. This may cause a significantly increasing avalanche danger.
  13. Looks kike a fine weekend coming and I'm looking at trying tne old chute on Sat nite/Sun AM. Snow should set up some by then. Whatchoo guys thinking.
  14. Thanks for the info. Thinking about a trip up next weekend.

  16. being a thursday.. only saw a few other folks out there. two from wy-east route. actually saw a dude fall in the crevasse(which has already opened a few inches)just up to his hip and he never knew he did. no rope going up but used two tools for the icy section. did use a couple of anchors to rap down. I would expect by may things will be beat down and not require rope
